Euro U23 golds for Papachristou, Tsakonas

Greece has collected two gold medals at the European Under-23 Track and Field Championship in Ostrava.

Voula Papachristou in triple jump and Lykourgos Tsakonas in 200 meters finished top to take Greece?s medal collection to 19 in the eight versions of the championship to date.

Papachristou has struck gold for the second time, after winning the 2009 event, too. This time the Greek champion won the triple jump with her best effort at 14.40 meters on July 15.

A day later Tsakonas, who had sailed through the qualifying heats and the semifinals, won the final with a new national record for the Under-23 category. The 21-year-old covered the distance in 20.56 seconds.

Tsakonas also made the mark both for the World Championships in South Korea this summer and for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
