Art installation vandalized

Just a few hours after it was unveiled, an outdoor installation by the artist Jenny Marketou in Kotzia Square, central Athens, was picked apart by vandals, according to a statement by the event?s organizer, the National Museum of Contemporary Art (EMST), released on Monday.

The installation, titled ?Red Eyed Sky Walkers,? comprised 99 large red weather balloons equipped with small video cameras that recorded bird?s-eye views of the activity in the busy square, located across the road from City Hall, which were then broadcast on the video-sharing website YouTube and screened at a nearby cafe.

Within hours of its unveiling, however, all that was left of the installation was the bags of cement used to anchor the balloons.

?It was a poem that lasted just a few hours,? said EMST Director Anna Kafetsi.
