Gekas moves to Turkey’s Samsunspor

Greece soccer striker Fanis Gekas has moved to Turkey after signing a six-month deal with Samsunspor, the Turkish club confirmed on Saturday.

Gekas left German second division team Eintracht Frankfurt to return to top-flight soccer ahead of the Euro 2012 finals in June where Greece will face Poland, Russia and the Czech Republic.

Gekas?s contract provides for a unilateral option for a two-year extension, until the summer of 2014.

The 32-year-old forward said yes to a profitable offer by the Samsun club in northern Turkey after seeing that he was not even getting enough games in Frankfurt. He therefore passed his medical and signed his new contract.
