Social security fund staff walkout

Employees of all social security funds were to stage a three-hour walkout starting from noon on Wednesday to protest government cutbacks affecting their sector.

The protesters object to a government decision to abolish two of the organizations providing state-subsidized housing and services to workers (known by their acronyms OEK and OEE). They are also against the reduction by 30 percent of employees staffing the new entity representing auxiliary pension funds.

Workers were to stage a demonstration at noon outside the offices of OEK on the junction of Patission and Solomou Streets in central Athens.
