Abandoned derby crowns Olympiakos champion

Olympiakos has all but clinched the season?s Super League championship in soccer as the derby with Panathinaikos on Sunday was abandoned with eight minutes left on the clock and the score at 1-0 in the Reds? favor.

Djamel Abdoun scored at the 51st minute with a beautiful swerving shot from the left that beat the Panathinaikos keeper in one of the few bright moments of a dull match at Athens?s Olympic Stadium.

After clashes between fans and police before the match and at half-time delayed the second half by about an hour, Molotov cocktails were thrown onto the pitch, aimed at the police, at the 82nd minute.

The riots continued outside the stadium, while some fans waved banners disparaging Greek politicians.

Olympiakos has now opened a seven-point gap from the Greens, while authorities may also punish Panathinaikos with a deduction of points.

In other games during the weekend, third-placed Atromitos drew 2-2 at Levadiakos, fourth PAOK drew 1-1 at Panetolikos and fifth AEK ended level with sixth Asteras at Tripoli with the same score.

There were home wins for Panionios over Doxa (2-0), Ergotelis over Kerkyra (1-0) and Aris over OFI (1-0), while PAS Giannina won 2-1 at Xanthi.
