Human traffickers nabbed at Athens airport

An Athens prosecutor on Thursday was questioning two Afghan nationals in relation to charges of trafficking illegal migrants through Athens International Airport.

The two suspects, aged 22 and 26, were caught on Wednesday after airport security spotted the elder of the two escorting five Afghan men who presented forged identification documents and electronic boarding passes issued in the name of their aliases. The 22-year-old, who is believed to be the brains behind the racket, was arrested later in his apartment in the central Athenian suburb of Kypseli.

The two men allegedly issued illegal migrants with fake travel documents for other countries in the European Union in exchange for 2,000-3,000 euros.

The five Afghan men who were supposed to leaving the country were also arrested and are being questioned.
