Ex minister’s spouse, daughter, face magistrate

Viki Stamati, wife of former Defense Minister Akis Tsochatzopoulos, was given several more days to prepare her testimony in connection to money-laundering charges after facing an investigative magistrate on Thursday.

Stamati, who was heckled by some bystanders as she arrived at magistrate Gavriil Mallis’s office in Athens on Thursday morning, is the owner of a dubiously purchased residence in the capital?s Acropolis area, on Dionysiou Aeropagitou Street. She is now expected to testify on April 27.

Also facing the investigative magistrate on Thursday was Tsochatzopoulos?s daughter, Areti, who was also given an extension to prepare her own testimony, along with another 8 suspects involved in the alleged money-laundering network.

Meanwhile, the ex Defense Minister, who was remanded in custody on Monday, is currently being held at the capital?s high-security Korydallos Prison.

Leaked excerpts of his 10-hour testimony, suggested that Tsochatzopoulos claimed to know nothing about a series of bank transfers, property deals and three offshore companies that have been traced to him.
