Thomsen says tax evasion could trip up Greek program
Representatives of the European Central Bank, European Commission and International Monetary Fund, collectively known as the troika, will visit Athens a month after the May 6 elections to assess Greece?s progress in meeting the targets in its second bailout, the head of the IMF representation, Poul Thomsen, said in Washington Friday.
Thomsen added that Greece would fail to meet its targets if more was not done to tackle tax evasion. He said the fiscal adjustment program would not succeed unless ?Greek authorities make quicker and more decisive structural reforms to address tax evasion.?
He said that the steps taken so far to improve tax collection had failed.
