Greens return to playoff table summit

Panathinaikos beat PAOK and Atromitos downed AEK on Sunday to revert the Super League playoff mini-table to where it was six days earlier.

The Greens defeated PAOK 2-0 at a near-empty Olympic Stadium of Athens for their first victory in this season?s playoffs, courtesy of second-half goals by Toche and Silva Cleyton. Always the better side in this game, Panathinaikos was much more prolific this time than in the three previous matches.

Playing at home, Atromitos needed a goal by Yiannis Skondras to score its own first playoff win, over an AEK that was bereft of ideas in attack. The Peristeri club should have also got a penalty when Costas Mitroglou was upended in the box.

The results have restored Panathinaikos?s lead in the standings. With two games left the Greens have eight points and PAOK has seven, but Panathinaikos has also secured a better head-to-head record with the Thessaloniki team should the two club finish level on points. AEK is third with six points and Atromitos went up to five.

In the next round of games, on Wednesday, Atromitos hosts Panathinaikos and AEK entertains PAOK.
