Seventy would-be migrants intercepted

Seventeen would-be migrants were escorted to the resort of Palaiokastritsa by a coast guard vessel on Monday after the inflatable dinghy in which they had been seeking to cross from the Ionian island to Italy was spotted by a helicopter belonging to the European Union?s border monitoring agency Frontex.

Meanwhile another 53 undocumented immigrants were detained after authorities spotted a yacht off the northwestern coast of Preveza.

The 64-year-old captain of the boat was also arrested.
