Samaras expected to resume duties after eye operation

The doctor treating Prime Minister Antonis Samaras following an operation to repair his damaged retina believes the New Democracy leader will be able to assume his duties this week.

Samaras was visited by Panagiotis Theodosiadis at his home in Kifissia, northern Athens on Sunday. ?Everything is progressing satisfactorily and I don?t see any reason why the prime minister won?t be able to attend the presentation of the government?s policy program in Parliament on Thursday,? the doctor told reporters.

Samaras was prevented from travelling to the European Union leaders? summit on Thursday and has been holding meetings with government officials at his home while recovering from surgery on June 30.

The prime minister is expected to begin working from his official office at Maximos Mansion today.
