Anti-racism campaigners in Greece say they have received claims of more than 300 attacks against mostly south Asian immigrants in the past three months, and called for better police protection against a surge in hate crimes.
Thursday's claim was made as the campaigners said five Indian and Pakistani immigrants had been injured after being attacked in their homes north of Athens this week by about 20 masked men.
One of the alleged victims had a broken right arm, while another had cuts and bruises all over his body after saying he was allegedly beaten with clubs and metal bars.
The U.S.-based Human Rights Watch in a report issued last week said it had documented recent attacks on dozens of immigrants living in Greece, warning of a surge in xenophobic violence. [AP]
