Three cases of social security fraud uncovered
Electronics crimes investigators on Thursday uncovered three separate cases of fraud against the IKA Social Security Foundation, amounting to a total of 100,000 euros in lost revenues for the cash-strapped insurer.
According to reports, two of the suspects ran technical services businesses and the third had an accounting firm. All three businesses are located in northern Greece.
Officers investigated the businesses on the request of IKA, which found that the three businesses were filing false benefits claims under names of people that did not exist on its database. The electronic crimes squad investigated the allegations and discovered that the three businesses were making claims for construction and other workers — claiming their bonuses, healthcare coverage, work permits and other benefits — that did not in fact exist and without ever paying the employers’ contributions which corresponded to them.
