House lifts MP’s immunity
Parliament on Thursday voted to lift the immunity of former Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis so the New Democracy MP can clarify her involvement in a case regarding a controversial financial transaction made by her husband Isidoros Kouvelos, but voted against lifting the immunity of leftist SYRIZA MP Dimitris Papadimoulis, who has been sued for slander by a porn star.
Bakoyannis had asked MPs to lift her immunity so ?no doubts linger? in the case. Her husband faces felony charges over the deposit of 1 million dollars in a foreign bank account and is accused of not declaring the sum. Papadimoulis had wanted his immunity lifted to defend himself against Julia Alexandratou, a porn actress who sued him after he accused her of ?provocative tax evasion.?
Separately, the hearing for a lawsuit brought against Independent Greeks? leader Panos Kammenos by the brother of ex-Premier George Papandreou, Andrikos, was put off until January. Kammenos claims Papandreou profited by buying credit default swaps to insure against a Greek default.
