Venizelos: Greece is not a ‘protectorate’
PASOK chief Evangelos Venizelos on Tuesday opposed troika demands for labor market reforms, describing pressure from international creditors as ?unjustified and provocative.?
?We are not a protectorate. Our partners and the troika have to keep this in mind,? the socialist leader said after talks among Greece’s coalition leaders.
Labor reforms are part of a 13.5 billion-euro package of austerity measures demanded by the European Union and the International Monetary Fund in exchange for further rescue aid.
Venizelos said that more austerity would be unsustainable.
?When we call upon the people to make extra sacrifices, these must yield results. This package must really be the last one,? he said.
