Olympiakos performs as European champion

A great showing by Olympiakos in Italy on Thursday saw the european champion emerge victorious from their match with EA7 Milano with an 84-71 score that has boosted their chances of advancing to the second round of the Euroleague.

The Reds left behind them the poor performances of their previous matches in Europe and imposed their game on their Italian hosts thanks to amazing three-point scoring rates by Costas Papanikolaou and Vassilis Spanoulis: Between them the two Greek internationals made 10 out of 14 shots behind the 6.75-meter line.

The players of coach Giorgos Bartzokas maintained a lead ranging between eight and 12 points for most of the game, and even led by 17 (74-57) toward the end.

Spanoulis had 23 points on the night and Papanikolaou notched up another 17 for Olympiakos?s third win in five Euroleague games this season.

The match in Milan also saw the debut for new Olympiakos signing Josh Powell, but the US forward was clearly not ready to play and was quickly substituted.
