Third loss in a row for Green hoopsters

Panathinaikos hoopsters were booed off the court by their own fans for the first time in many years, as the Greens suffered on Friday their third straight defeat in all competitions losing 79-67 at home to Russian team Khimki for the Euroleague.

The players of coach Argyris Pedoulakis had clearly not recovered from their shock loss to Ikaros Kallitheas a few days earlier in the league and produced a poor display in the first 30 minutes and a disastrous performance in the last period against a side that was not that imposing as the final score might suggest.

After a 58-58 result at the end of the third period, Panathinaikos conceded 14 points and scored just one in the first six and a half minutes of the last quarter, with Khimki taking the game beyond the Greeks leading 72-59.

The Greens? performance was so bad on the night at the Olympic Sports Hall that their captain Dimitris Diamantidis scored no points at all, making none of the two free throws, one two-pointer and six three-pointers he attempted.

This was the third defeat for Panathinaikos in the group stage of the Euroleague after five games, putting at risk the team?s qualification to the next round.
