Thessaloniki hostage situation ends peacefully

A bank manager who was being held hostage in Thessaloniki has been freed unharmed after police managed to arrest the 72-year-old hostage taker, reports said.

The man had early on Thursday poured gasoline inside the building that houses the local branch of the Fund of Deposits and Loans and threatened to light it on fire.

He is said to have been locked in a financial dispute with the fund.

There were no reports of injuries.
