Qatar Air to fly Athens to New York

Qatar Airways announced on Wednesday it will start daily direct flights between Athens and New York in 2013 throughout the year, taking advantage of the void created by the cessation of all direct flights on the route this winter.

The airline’s chief executive officer, Akbar Al Baker, stated that the service will begin next summer on Boeing 787 or Airbus A380 aircraft.

“Qatar Airways supports Greece with its presence not only in the good times but also in the crisis period,” said Al Baker, adding, “We will continue to support our presence in Greece, creating new jobs as well.”

Asked whether other companies from Qatar have targeted Greece for investment, the Qatar Airways CEO said that companies from the Arab state are moving ahead with investments without big proclamations, adding that Qatar has already expressed its strong commitment to investment in this country.
