Company in Larissa raided over phony pellets

Police and environmental inspectors have raided a company in Larissa, central Greece, which had produced some 50 tons of pellets from garbage rather than wood that were intended for sale on the market, with potentially damaging consequences for the health of people who would burn them in their stoves at home.

Kathimerini understands that authorities raided the company on November 23 after someone filed a complaint about the company.

Offices found the pellets in the warehouse in sacks. Samples were sent for analysis, which showed that the pellets consisted of desiccated trash.

Sources said that the company had been involved in waste management in the past.
