Burglars at large after shootout

Police were Friday seeking four burglars who exchanged fire with police and hijacked the car of journalist Makis Triantafyllopoulos after breaking into a home in Nea Erythraia, northern Athens.

The robbers, believed to be foreign, were armed with assault rifles and wearing bulletproof vests. They fled in a car which they left in Ekali, then forcibly took the vehicle of the journalist, who was unharmed.

That car was later found in a riverbed in Kryoneri. A search of the vehicle turned up a pistol and three hand grenades.
