Ieronymos criticizes Berlin’s handling of eurozone crisis

The head of the Greek Orthodox Church on Friday criticized Berlin’s handling of the eurozone debt crisis, adding that Greece will not “sell off” its dignity.

“What kind of Europe do we want? A German Europe or a European Germany?” Archbishop Ieronymos said in Athens Friday.

Greece’s most senior cleric was speaking during a meeting with Hans Joachim Fuchtel, parliamentary state secretary at Germany’s Federal Ministry for Labor and Social Affairs, as well as representatives of the Diakonie Federation of Voluntary Welfare.

“We welcome our partners’ help,” Ieronymos said, adding: “But under one condition: We have to maintain our dignity. We have our own history and culture that we cannot sell off.”
