Poet and lyricist Alkaios succumbs to cancer at 63
Poet and lyricist Alkis Alkaios has died at the age of 63 after suffering from cancer.
Alkaios made his debut as a poet in 1967 but is perhaps best known for his 1983 collection “Embargo”.
Since the late 1970s, Alkaios had a close collaboration with composer Thanos Mikroutsikos.
Alkaios also worked with a number of other well-known Greek composers and artists, including Sokratis Malamas and Babis Stokas.
His funeral will take place on Tuesday in Parga, northwestern Greece.
