List of 46,000 pension fraud suspects heading to prosecutors

Labor Minister Yiannis Vroutsis is set to provide prosecutors with the details of almost 46,000 people who have been illegally claiming pensions and other social security benefits, ministry sources said on Wednesday.

The list of 45,997 names was compiled after a series of censuses were carried out over the past few months.

These established that thousands of pensions and benefits were being paid despite the legal claimants being dead.

It is estimated this cost Greek taxpayers 320 million euros a year.
