Lavrentiadis had tried to obtain new passport prior to arrest

Businessman Lavrentis Lavrentiadis had been attempting to obtain a passport from French Guiana before his arrest on suspicion of embezzlement at Proton Bank earlier this month, Kathimerini understands.

Sources involved in monitoring Lavrentiadis’s movements ahead of his arrest alleged that he had been in contact with a businessman in the Middle East in order to obtain the travel document.

French Guiana is an overseas region of France on the North Atlantic coast of South America.

Sources close to Lavrentiadis insist that the former main shareholder in Proton Bank never obtained such a passport and always returned to Greece from his frequent trips abroad, proving he was not a flight risk.
