Offshore firms linked to jailed businessman
Tax authorities who have been investigating the dealings of jailed businessman Yiannis Karouzos have discovered he had links to more than 140 offshore companies that owned properties in Myconos, Crete, Corfu, Patra, Athens and Italy, Kathimerini understands.
Karouzos, who was active in construction, was arrested earlier this month at a hotel in Glyfada. He had earlier been sentenced to 19 years in jail for debts to the state.
Karouzos gained prominence recently when real estate agent Jim Livanos claimed the businessman told him a number of politicians, including Parliament Speaker Vangelis Meimarakis, were linked to his offshore companies. Meimarakis rejected the claims.
