Police clash with protesters objecting tax office merger

Police fired tear gas on Wednesday outside the premises of a tax office in Naoussa, northern Greece, to disperse representatives of local businesses protesting the merging of the office with another in the nearby town of Veria.

Protesters, who complain that the relocation will complicate their transactions with the tax bureau, tried to stop state officials from carrying computers and other equipment out of the offices and into a truck for relocation.

On Tuesday, the mayor and deputy regional prefect of Deskati in Grevena were arrested during a similar protest.
