Greek police launches initiative to curb race attacks
The Greek police on Monday launched an initiative aimed at curbing a wave of violence against immigrants to be coordinated by two new departments in Athens and Thessaloniki, 68 smaller offices nationwide and a 24-hour hotline (11414) for citizens to report attacks.
Police Chief Lieutenant General Nikolaos Papayiannopoulos said the initiative was “a clear, organized and decisive response” to rising violence. He said he hoped Greek citizens would be the “allies” of the police in the crackdown.
