Olympiakos unbeaten after first half of season

A good second half was enough for Olympiakos to beat Apollon 88-69 at Patras on Monday and finish the first half of the Basket League’s regular season with a perfect record.

The Reds faced some stiff opposition in the first half, with Apollon taking the lead at several points, but they ran away with it in the second half led by Giorgos Printezis, who notched up 18 points on the night.

Panathinaikos is two points adrift after its hard-fought 71-61 home win against a stubborn PAOK on Sunday, in the absence of the Greens’ captain Dimitris Diamantidis.

Panionios saw off visiting Ikaros Kallitheas 82-75 and is now alone in third, while Aris kept rising in the standings with an easy 75-52 victory over Kolossos Rhodes in Thessaloniki.

The return of bottom club Panelefsiniakos to its natural home at Elefsina, instead of neighboring Peristeri, did not give the league’s newcomers the boost they needed to beat visiting KAO Dramas. After a breathtaking game on Saturday KAOD emerged victorious 76-74.

In other games, Ilisiakos took a leap toward its safety with a 66-64 home triumph over Peristeri, and AGO Rethymnou edged out Enosi Kavalas 88-79 in Crete.
