Doctors, diagnostic centers protest EOPYY debt haircut

Diagnostic centers and doctors working in laboratories are to stop providing services on credit for the National Organization for Healthcare Provision (EOPYY) in protest at the method the government is proposing to use to settle outstanding debts.

The government has proposed that those owed money by social security funds that have, since late 2011, been merged into EOPYY accept a reduction of up to 20 percent on the debt as part of a final settlement.

The union representing doctors who work with EOPYY is to meet this week to decide on what action to take. The Athens Medical Association on Wednesday called on the government to find a “fair and balanced” solution.
