Lagarde list panel to start calling witnesses

A 13-member panel tasked with investigating former Finance Minister Giorgos Papaconstantinou over claims that he removed the names of three relatives from the Lagarde list of Greek depositors is Thursday to decide on who to call as witnesses.

Leftist opposition SYRIZA wants to call PASOK leader and former Finance Minister Evangelos Venizelos, and Democratic Left is said to back the idea. New Democracy wants to call witnesses based on the chronological order of their alleged implication in the affair, meaning the ex-head of the National Intelligence Service Konstantinos Bikas would be first.

The committee’s first session Wednesday was tense after half its members refused to support ND’s Christos Markoyiannakis who was nominated to head the panel.
