Protesting farmers block Egnatia Highway junctions

Farmers protesting the revocation of their tax breaks and other changes in government policy under a troika-imposed austerity drive parked their tractors on key junctions of the Egnatia Highway in northern Greece on Friday.

Representatives of the union representing the nation’s farmers are scheduled to meet on Sunday to decide how to continue with their protest action.

Smaller unions and cooperatives around the country are awaiting the decision by the umbrella union to decide on how to proceed with protest action at the local level. Farmers from Thessaly are to meet at noon on Saturday to discuss their plan of action.
