Greek study exposes online risks for European teenagers

Nearly half of Europe’s teenagers have met people offline after becoming online friends, according to a recent Greek study.

Experts at the Aglaia Kyriakou Children’s Hospital found that nearly one in 10 teenagers who have met strangers online described the experience as “traumatic,” while 60 percent have been exposed to sexual material on the Web. Twenty-two percent also said that they had received some form of threat.

The study looked at a sample of 13,300 teens from seven countries.
