Parliament’s Lagarde list inquiry to ask for prosecutor’s help

The lawmakers on the committee investigating former Finance Minister Giorgos Papaconstantinou in connection to claims he doctored the Lagarde list of Greeks with deposits at a bank in Switzerland are to enlist the help of a prosecutor to question witnesses.

The MPs are to turn to a first instance prosecutor after it emerged that 43 people would have to be questioned so that the committee can establish which of the civil servants who worked with Papaconstantinou at the Finance Ministry had access to the CD containing the names of more than 2,000 Greeks with savings at the Geneva branch of HSBC.

Committee members on Tuesday discussed the possibility of their sessions being televised but this appears unlikely as it would require a change in parliamentary regulations.
