Qatar back on Elliniko list of bidders, say gov’t sources

Qatar is back on a list of bidders with regards to the development project of the site of the Greek capital’s former internatinal airport at Elliniko, southern Athens, government sources said on Wednesday.

According to reports, Doha officials have signed the relevant confidentiality clauses regarding the bidding project and are expected to submit their business plan along with the other parties participating in the tender by July.

The same sources added that following the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani’s decision to abandon plans for the purchase of a private island in the Ionian sea, certain issues regarding the property’s construction were expected to be solved through a series of legislative measures.

Prime Minister Antonis Samaras recently visited Qatar where he sought to project an image of Greece as an attractive location for investment.
