Central Bank of Cyprus says not notified of bank holiday on Tuesday

Banks will operate as normal on Tuesday, the Central Bank of Cyprus stated on Monday, as it has not yet been notified of a decision to declare Tuesday a bank holiday.

Spokeswoman Aliki Stylianou told state broadcaster CyBC that if there are any changes during the day there will be a decree issued and a statement published. Since this has not yet happened, banks will open as always on Tuesday.

She added that despite the fact that the situation in difficult, the central bank has taken all necessary action to ensure the biggest possible stability in the island’s credit system.

Bank of Cyprus, the island’s biggest commercial bank is holding an emergency board meeting at 12 noon, which among other things is expected to authorize the sale of its branches in Greece to a Greek lender.
