Up to 2,000 migrants on hunger strike to protest Greek holding conditions, say activists

Some 2,000 immigrants being held in reception centers across Greece have been on hunger strike since Saturday to protest poor conditions and abuse from authorities, the United Movement Against Racism and the Fascist Threat (KEERFA) said on Monday.

KEERFA co-ordindator Petros Constantinou said that three of the migrants on hunger strike at the Amygdaleza center in northern Athens had attempted to commit suicide on Monday morning.

Constantinou accused the Public Order Ministry of trying to cover up the poor conditions migrants were being held in.
