Police intercept migrant smugglers in northern Greece

Six suspected people smugglers were being questioned by police in northern Greece on Wednesday after being intercepted while trying to bring 11 undocumented immigrants into the country in two vehicles with Bulgarian license plates.

The migrants – six Syrians, four Afghans and one Iraqi – were also in detention as authorities sought to establish their status.

The suspected smugglers, aged 53, 40, 25, 21 and 19, are all Bulgarian nationals.
