A 6-year-old girl drowned off the coast of Farmakonisi on Wednesday.
Authorities said the child’s body was found in the Aegean after a dinghy carrying 22 undocumented immigrants sank near the Dodecanese island. Coast guard officers had been alerted to the child's disappearance when they picked up the stranded migrants.
The migrants had been crossing from Turkey.
It is common for traffickers to burst dinghies once they are in Greek waters so migrants can be collected by the coast guard.
The 21 survivors were taken to Leros.
Their nationality was not made known.
