Closer ties forged with Australia

Greek Environment and Energy Minister Yiannis Maniatis held a meeting on Thursday with the Australian ambassador in Athens, Jenny Bloomfield, during which the two officials exchanged views in a discussion that focused on Greece’s energy prospects, the country’s privatizations and investments.

Bloomfield, who is Greek by birth, heard Maniatis explain the ministry’s priorities in the utilization of the country’s hydrocarbons and other mineral wealth, as well as in simplifying and accelerating the process for issuing environmental clearance for investments.

The two officials also discussed privatizations and investment prospects in Greece, with Bloomfield informing Maniatis of Australia’s experience in carrying out reforms and boosting competition, particularly after its energy liberalization.
