Police in the prefectures of Argolida and Arcadia in the Peloponnese were conducting a large-scale operation in Roma settlements on Wednesday as part of a crackdown on crime.

Similar operations were launched earlier in the week in Messinia where 84 people were arrested, while 71 people were remanded by police for questioning following operations carried out in Roma camps in Corinth and Argos on Monday.

According to police reports, officers checked 943 people and 619 vehicles, while those arrested faced charges for being in possession of drugs and weapons, stealing electricity and conducting sanitary violations.
