Germany must also accept blame for Greece’s plight, says WTO’s Lamy
Germany must also take its share of the blame for Greece “losing a decade,” the outgoing head of the World Trade Organisation Pascal Lamy told German newspaper Die Welt on Sunday.
“Germany is also to blame for the country’s plight,” said Lamy.
“Germany did not scrutinize Greece’s books when it entered the eurozone and later softened the Stability Pact. Germany therefore has a responsibility for Greece.”
Lamy also expressed his belief that the eurozone will become a transfer union.
“You cannot exist without a system of solidarity,” he said. “The key question is: Do Europeans feel a common civilization committed to develop into a sense of solidarity?
“Europe has lost ten years due to the political crisis ten years. Unfortunately, even more time has been lost with regard to the question of a common identity.”
