Counterterrorism officer believed to be behind forgery ring
A 46-year-old member of the police’s counterterrorism department is believed to have played a leading role in a racket of fraudsters issuing forged passports and other documents to unidentified beneficiaries, Kathimerini has learned.
The 46-year-old is alleged to have given orders to three other suspected members of the racket who are believed to have acted as couriers, delivering the forged documents.
It is unclear how much the ring made in illicit profits but it charged between 300 and 1,200 euros for each document, police sources said.
The officer is believed to have used the force’s archives to ensure that the names put on the fake documents were not those of known criminals.
