Man arrested for fraudulently claiming widower’s pension for 10 years

A 63-year-old man who allegedly claimed a widower’s pension from the Social Security Foundation (IKA) for 10 years despite marrying again seven months after the death of his first wife was arrested late on Thursday, police said.

The suspect is believed to have fraudulently pocketed 83,000 euros from IKA.

The arrest came a day after the detention of a 63-year-old woman who allegedly claimed a widow’s pension for nearly 30 years despite the fact that she remarried shortly after her husband’s death. She is believed to have cost IKA some 105,000 euros, according to the foundation.
