Samaras and Venizelos to attend Clerides funeral in Nicosia

Prime Minister Antonis Samaras will lead the Greek representation at the funeral of former Cypriot president Glafcos Clerides on Tuesday in Nicosia. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos will also be present, Athens announced on Sunday.

Clerides died on Friday at the age of 94 years and a four-day mourning period has been declared in Cyprus since Saturday.

The funeral will take place at 11 a.m. at the Theou Sofias church of the Nicosia suburb of Strovolos, and the fourth President of the Republic of Cyprus will be buried at the Constantinou kai Elenis cemetery in Nicosia. Several foreign politicians and diplomats will also be attending.

President Nicos Anastasiades cut short his visit to Sri Lanka and returned to Cyprus to lead a meeting at his office on Sunday at 11 a.m. regarding the preparation for the funeral, that will be conducted with the honors befitting a sitting president.
