Worrying allegations

We can only hope that the accusations being made by a number of officials and executives involved in the scandals that have emerged over the past few days in regard to arms procurements are not true as far as former high-ranking military officers are concerned.

It would come as a huge shock to Greek society to learn that beyond the politicians that have already been implicated in shady arms deals, important figures in the country’s armed forces have also been involved in underhanded practices and accepted kickbacks.

The information that has allegedly come out needs to be handled with caution so that judicial authorities can get on with the job of either confirming or rejecting it.

If, however, these allegations are proved to be true, it will prove that the rot of corruption has eaten into every institutional pillar of this country.
