Winter sales to start on January 13 and end February 28
Winter sales will start on Monday, January 19, and run through Friday, February 28, with shops having the option of staying open on Sunday, January 19, the National Confederation of Greek Commerce (ESEE) announced on Tuesday.
ESEE issued a circular that was sent out to all members setting down the rules of the sales, such as that retailers must display the previous price of a product together with the new discounted price and must not engage in false advertising.
The confederation warned that violations of the rules such as misleading advertising regarding the size of discounts will carry heavy fines of as much as 5 percent of annual turnover and no less than 5,000 euros, especially for repeat offenders.
