SETE expects tourism arrivals to reach 18.5 mln
The tourism industry in Greece has set the barrier even higher for this year, as in a meeting with Prime Minister Antonis Samaras at his office on Tuesday, representatives of the Association of Hellenic Tourism Enterprises (SETE) estimated that foreign arrivals in 2014 will reach 18.5 million while tourism revenues will hit 13 billion euros.
SETE also estimated that the sum of direct and indirect revenues will amount to 35 billion euros and 50,000 new jobs will be created, as tourism prospects for 2014 are particularly favorable provided that the country’s political stability is maintained.
The meeting – also attended by the ministers of tourism development, finance, labor, development, culture and merchant marine and other tourism industry officials – discussed interventions and reforms requested by the association, with Samaras said to have approved the opening of 30 key museums and archaeological sites from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. between April and October, among other measures.
