Winter sales start next Monday

The winter sales of 2014 are scheduled to start two days earlier than in previous years, as a new law provides for the post-Christmas sales period to start on the second Monday of January – i.e. next Monday, January 13.

The sales will last until Friday, February 28.

Furthermore, all stores, regardless of size, will have the option of opening on the first Sunday of the sales period (January 19).

Tradesmen are required to display the price of commodities both before and after the discount offer, but are not obliged by law to show the percentage of the discount.

Any stores found to be violating the rules regarding sales will have to pay a fine amounting to 0.5 percent of their annual turnover, with a minimum fine of 5,000 euros.
