Medical equipment damaged in fire at Metaxas Hospital in Piraeus

A substantial amount of medical equipment was damaged in a fire at the Metaxas Hospital in Piraeus on Sunday.

Firefighters remained at the scene until Monday to ensure that the blaze, which broke out in a basement store room, would not rekindle. Seven fire engines and 21 firefighters were involved in the effort to put out the blaze.

A number of patients had to be evacuated as a result of the fire but there were no injuries.

The cause of the fire and the value of the damage it caused were not immediately known.
